How are you supposed to direct your cover letter to a specific person when most are going to a HR person for screening?
You find the name of the hiring manager from researching on Linkedin or calling the company and asking. Do what it takes to find out who this person is. Yes, it takes effort. Yes, it’s worth it.
I found it very easy to locate hiring managers in the company by doing some research on the company using Linked-In. A HR manager doesn’t work for you ever, they are trained to put road blocks in place. David Perry use to be a HR manager, and talks about some of the tactics used to find candidates. Always best to apply to the hiring manager.
When an ad specifies not to contact the party directly, do you take the chance and contact them to discuss the job or get a name to drop into the cover letter?
Drilling down thru the internet, I can always find SomeOne to whom I can address my cover letter. Also, it gives me the ability to find an email or snail-mail addy to also send direct copies to – in addition to the HR or any other addy as stated by the potential employer. It works in getting thru to the right people! Now to get the right interview and job . . . . ! Still pursuing, never letting go!
Very helpful. I am re-writing my cover letter as I watch.
