I’m applying for a new job and I’ve been asked to include a covering letter – I’ve never been asked to write one before but i’ve had a go, i’ve included my training, why i want the job and a little bit about my personality – is there anything else i should include?

It’s called a "cover letter" not a "covering letter."
Your resume should list out your job history/experience and education. The cover letter should include specific information about yourself that is relevant to the position you are applying for.
